After 2 years we've brought several copies of this book back into stock!!

Two years after the publication of the book “LOCKS-SERRATURE” (also available from Artisan Ideas), which showcased an exceptional collection of antique, blacksmith-made, locking devices, and which was met with great enthusiasm around the world, Fiorenzo e Alessandro Cesati pay homage, through this new book, to another important family of objects in iron - doorknockers - by presenting a rare and varied collection of figurative objects, made in Europe between the Middle Ages and the 18th century.

The book - as well as the collection itself - consisting of more than 60 objects - was officially presented on the occasion of the 22nd edition of TEFAF Maastricht (12th -21st March 2009) the International Art Show, in Holland.

Along with locks and keys, doorknockers are the objects that are the most complex to make in iron and that have produced the highest levels of aesthetic success.

The primary idea of this project was to highlight - within the large typology of doorknockers - a remarkable and high-quality group of pieces, with rich anthropomorphic, zoomorphic or phytomorphic decorations.

Like the locking devices in the previous book, the doorknockers reproduced on these pages are once again protagonists of a sequence of images which cast light on their individual plastic and artistic virtues and, as a result, emphasize the importance of their ‘visual’ role.

The significant set of objects chosen also documents the fantasy and imagination of outstanding craftsmen in iron, who were able to shape such a hard and elusive material to obtain true sculptures in the space of a few centimetres : small masterworks worthy of their place in any ancient or modern Wunderkammer.

This book is printed on the best quality paper. The photographs are extraordinary. Only 1,000 copies were printed. This is a collector’s item.
